The chapters included in this volume result from the research project Literary Citizens of the World. Tracing Transnational Crossroads of Books in Early Modern Norway, 15191850 (LitCit). This international and interdisciplinary project was funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN), hosted by the National Library of Norway (NB) between 2016 and 2021, with Aina Nøding and Ruth Hemstad as alternating managers. The chapters present concluding research results by LitCit participants as well as research from invited experts in related areas. This volume is funded in full by the RCN and NB. The editorial committee (Ruth Hemstad, Janicke S. Kaasa, Ellen Krefting and Aina Nøding) wishes to thank both institutions for their generous support. Furthermore, we should like to express our gratitude to the editors of the series Knowledge and Communication in the Enlightenment World, Professors James Raven and Mark Towsey, for their and the reviewers’ many useful comments in the editing process. Most of all, we should like to thank the contributors for their brilliant chapters and the thought-provoking discussions that have ensued from our collaboration.
